Ramadan 2026 | 1447 at Sakina Ahmed Masjid
Tuesday, 17 February 2026
Asalamualaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh
Start of Ramadan
Our Hijri calendar is based on local moon sightings, which is an authentic practice based on the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH), where each region relies on its own moon sighting.
In accordance with this, it is 28 Shaʿbān 1447 today in the UK. Therefore, at our Masjid, Ramadan will begin on either Thursday, 19 February 2026 or Friday, 20 February 2026, depending on the sighting of the moon.
A confirmation announcement will be made around an hour after Maghrib tomorrow, Wednesday, 18 February 2026 In-Shaa-Allah.
Tarawih Prayers (20 Rakaʿahs – Whole Qur’an)
Tarawih prayers will commence either on Wednesday night or on Thursday night, as above, depending on the sighting of the moon.
We will be reciting the whole Qur’an (khatam) during Ramadan across 20 Rakaʿahs each night. All brothers and sisters are welcome to attend and offer as many Rakaʿahs as they’re able to.

Due to our central location, there isn’t an onsite car park. However, you will be able to utilise nearby public car parks, listed below:

Iftar (Opening of the Fast)
During Ramadan, Maghrib Jama’ah will be delayed by 12 minutes to allow those in attendance to open their fast and have some light refreshment before prayer. This will also allow brothers and sisters who live nearby to open their fast at home before travelling to the Masjid for prayer.
Iʿtikāf
If you are interested in sitting Iʿtikāf this year, please speak to the Imam or email us at info@sakinamasjid.co.uk.
Charity Collections
There will be charity collections every Friday for humanitarian causes, including Gaza, Sudan and Syria. You will be able to donate your Zakah and Sadaqah to these collections.
